As the "heart" of a car, the normal operation of the engine relies on the lubrication, cooling, and cleaning functions of the engine oil. However, in the oil circulation, impurities such as metal shavings, dust, sludge, and fuel residue are inevitably mixed in. These impurities, if left for a long time, will wear down internal precision components like "sandpaper", leading to increased clearances, decreased power, increased fuel consumption, and even major repairs. The oil filter assembly continuously purifies the engine oil and removes impurities through a scientific working mechanism, providing a core guarantee for the healthy operation of the engine. Although its principle is not complex, it contains rigorous engineering design logic.
After the engine is started, the oil pump extracts and pressurizes the oil from the oil pan. The pressurized oil flows into the assembly through the inlet and enters the outer chamber of the filter element through the check valve. Under the action of oil pressure, the engine oil slowly penetrates through the pores of the filter paper and penetrates into the inner center tube. Impurities such as metal debris, carbon deposits, and dust are intercepted on the surface of the filter paper and cannot enter the center tube. Pure engine oil flows out through the oil outlet of the central pipe and is transported to lubrication parts such as the crankshaft, camshaft, valve tappet, piston pin, etc. After completing the lubrication and cooling cycle, it flows back to the oil pan and enters the next round of filtration.
As the usage time increases, impurities accumulate on the surface of the filter element, the flow resistance of the filter paper increases, and the oil circulation efficiency decreases. When the pressure difference between the front and rear of the filter element reaches the preset value, the bypass valve automatically opens to provide an emergency passage for the engine oil, allowing unfiltered engine oil to bypass the filter element and flow into the lubrication system, ensuring that there is always an oil supply to the components and avoiding oil blockage and dry grinding damage. This dual mechanism of "filtering priority and emergency backup" not only ensures the cleanliness of the engine oil, but also takes into account operational safety and avoids the risk of extreme working condition failures.
The core value of the oil filter assembly lies in maintaining oil cleanliness and lubrication performance through efficient filtration, reducing component wear, extending oil change cycles, and reducing engine failure rates. Practice has shown that emphasizing the quality of assemblies and replacement cycles can significantly extend the service life of engines, reduce later maintenance costs, and play a prominent role in improving the reliability and economy of automobiles. It is a key link that cannot be ignored in automobile maintenance.
