The installation quality of the oil filter assembly directly affects its sealing performance and filtration effect. Many car owners or maintenance personnel neglect installation details, resulting in oil leakage, premature failure of the filter element, abnormal oil pressure, and other problems, indirectly damaging the engine. Mastering the correct installation method and avoiding common operational errors are key links in ensuring the normal operation of the assembly and extending the engine life. The seemingly simple installation process requires both standardization and meticulousness in every step.
The most common misconception is over tightening the assembly. Some people believe that the greater the tightening force, the better the sealing performance. However, excessive force can cause deformation of the housing, compression and damage of the sealing ring, and even lead to oil leakage. It may also damage the installation interface threads and affect subsequent replacement operations. The correct approach is to first manually tighten the assembly until the sealing ring is completely in contact with the installation surface, and then use a special wrench to tighten it 3/4 turn clockwise to ensure a tight fit without damaging the components, balancing sealing and disassembly convenience.
Neglecting the lubrication of the sealing ring before installation is also a high-frequency problem. Sealing rings that have not been coated with engine oil have high friction resistance with the installation interface, which can easily cause misalignment, stretching, and damage during installation. At the same time, it can affect the fit of the sealing surface and increase the risk of leakage. The correct operation should be to evenly apply a layer of new engine oil on the surface of the sealing ring of the new assembly, which can improve the sealing performance and reduce friction damage during installation, ensuring that the sealing ring fits perfectly with the interface.
In addition, misunderstandings such as not cleaning up residual impurities and old sealing rings at the interface before installation, and not checking for leaks after installation can also affect the safety of use. After installation, it is necessary to add a standard amount of new engine oil, start the engine and idle for 3-5 minutes, observe whether there is oil leakage around the assembly, oil pan and interface, and pay attention to the instrument panel oil pressure indicator light. After confirming that there is no abnormality, drive normally to avoid installation risks from details.
